Betty Marie (Brooks) Sturdivant

Betty Marie Brooks Sturdivant, 82, of Marietta passed away Friday, April 15, 2016.  A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta. 

Betty was born August 24, 1933 in Cobb County, Georgia to Willie Marie Brown Brooks of Cobb County and Roy Kendall Brooks who was born in Pickens County.  She was the youngest of five children, Evelyn, Ulyess, Charles, and JR.    Betty went to school in Atlanta before moving in to a house, they had built in Kennesaw at 10 years of age.  Betty was 15 years old when she met the father of her children, Nolan Lee Sturdivant.  Nolan and Betty double dated with some of their friends, as well as attended church together.  Nolan was walking Betty home after church one evening and looked at Betty and said, “Let’s get married”.  They were married April 9, 1950 on Easter Sunday in Marietta, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Edie; son, Nolan (Noley) and grandson Justin. Betty is survived by her 3 daughters, Theresa Black, Sherri Jarrard, & Jenny Sturdivant; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on the day of the service from 12 PM until time for the service to start at 2 PM.
