In loving memory of Ernest Earl Fowler, (Ernie), 90 years old, died peacefully on August 18, 2016.  Ernie was born December 31, 1925 in Redondo Beach, Ca. The family moved to California to escape the dust bowl.  Around 1931,  the family returned to ElDorado, KS.

At 18, he joined the Marine Corp during WWII and fought in the Pacific theater for 31 days in the Battle for Iwo Jima with the 3rd division.  Every member of his squad was either killed or wounded, except Ernie. He also served on Guam and in China with the First Division during the occupation of China.    After the war, he earned a BS in Television Engineering from the American Television Institute of Technology.   He was employed by  Dynalectron(now DynCorp) and spent his entire 40 year career with them traveling the United States and the world.    In 1980, work brought the family to Marietta.     Ernie and Mary enjoyed 25 years of retirement together and traveled to visit family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary E. Fowler of Marietta, GA.  His daughter, Lori Middleton and husband, Dan Middleton  and grandchildren Sierra Middleton and Jay Middleton of Dunwoody, GA. Also survived by two of his 12 siblings, Juanita Myers and Fred R. Fowler of Wichita, KS.   Brother in law Don Bobbitt, brother in law Jack Green, Wichita, KS and sister in law Helen Fowler of Ft. Collins, CO.

Ernie enjoyed many hobbies and activities throughout his life:  golf, gardening, working on machines, cabinet making, Georgia Tech sports, and traveling.  He was a Mason and member of the Archive Lodge of Deer Park, TX and a lifetime member of the American Legion.    He always loved a good bowl of ice cream, especially black walnut.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the USO.org
