Gwen Weinzettel Berg, 93, of Roswell, Georgia, died July 7, 2017, with her family by her side.
She was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri where she attended Washington University.
She lived 31 years in Savannah, Georgia, where she raised her five children. Gwen was Past President of the Savannah Symphony Women’s Guild and served on the Board of the Savannah Symphony Society. Additionally, she was a Vice President and Chairman of the Memorial Medical Centers Hospital Auxiliary and volunteer worker. Also, she served on the Board of the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center.
Gwen lived at Brookdale Chambrel in Roswell, Georgia for the past 23 years where she was very involved in her community and her faith through multiple activities. In her catholic parish, she led the music for mass, participated in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and volunteered to assist parishioners in need. At Chambrel, she performed in musicals, played bridge regularly and welcomed new neighbors. She made many friends and passed on her love for music and specifically Opera by hosting events at her home for many years. She also enjoyed traveling, sharing her trips through her photography of God’s beautiful creations.
She was preceded in death by her first husband R. J. Weinzettel and second husband,Wallace Berg, , sisters Ivanelle (Dolly) Konetzky and Lynn Haxton.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Jim Weinzettel (Janie), Steve Weinzettel (Nancy), Cathy Homan (Harvey), Cindy DeLoach (Jim) and Carol Simon; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; three step-children Pete Berg (Judy), Christine Millard (Ron), Andy Berg (Sherron) and their children along with her brother-in-law David Haxton, six nieces and nephews and their children.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, July 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 535 Rucker Road, Alpharetta, Georgia, followed by refreshments at the church. The family requests that donations be made to Covenant House or Catholic Relief Services in memory of Gwen W. Berg.
