James Michael Rogers

James Michael “Mike” Rogers, 67, left us on August 19, 2016.  He would not want us to weep over his passing, but would rather we continue living our lives and remember him for his life-long love affair with hunting and fishing, his sly sense of humor, his incredible work ethic, his unwavering loyalty, and his unconditional love for his family and friends.  He was a man of few words and a ton of action.  You could always count on Mike’s word to be true, that he would never have an ill word towards anyone, and be assured that he took fashion advice from no one.

For some history, Mike was born in Calhoun, moving with his parents to Marietta at a young age.  That’s where he stayed, never wandering far because he didn’t find it necessary to do so.  After graduating from Sprayberry High School, Mike worked in the metal industry for many a year, before landing at Tippins Contracting in 1991.  During his life, he made many life-long friends, impacted many lives, and had a good time doing so.  What made Mike smile? Grandchildren in his lap, his wife at his side, a cold beer in his hand, sitting in a deer stand at the break of dawn, the anticipation of the green flag, bargaining for a deal, and just the simple things.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Geneva Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Joan Crocker Rogers; son, Scott Rogers (Christina); daughter, Michelle Wolfson (Howard) and his grandchildren, Nicklaus, Chandler, Emerson, Evan, and Zachary.

A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5 PM to 7 PM.  In lieu of flowers, Mike Rogers and family would rather you make a donation to a charity of your choice, do a kind deed today, or just raise a toast in honor of all the fighters out there.
