Joan Bernadette McGinnis passed away on Tuesday, June 13th, 2017 in Cumming, Georgia, at the age of 75. “Joanie”, also lovingly known as “Nauni”, was at peace and surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Joan is survived by her daughter Michelle Winsness and husband Kevin Winsness of Cumming, her daughter Catherine McGinnis and partner Johnnie Sego of Rockmart, her son William Ohara and partner Susan Wright of Niskayuna, NY, her son Tony Jankowski and partner Jackie Zebrowski of Muir of Ord, Scotland, her son Paul Clark and wife Michelle Clark of Armadale, Scotland, her brother William Bamford and wife Pat Bamford of Sunbury, England, her ex-husband John McGinnis of Roswell, her 16 grandchildren, Caitlin Winsness, Anna Winsness, Daniel Winsness, Ethan Brown, Lola Sego, Richard Eisloeffel, Allan Ohara, Theresa Ohara, Jennifer Ohara, Cameron Clark, Harris Clark, David Jankowski, Rachael Jankowski, Logan Jankowski, Katie Jankowski, and Lexi Jankowski, her 3 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown, Hunter Ohara, and Baby Jankowski due to arrive in August, and her nieces, Samantha Bamford and Beverly Bamford of England.  Joan left behind countless, wonderful, loving friends whom she thought of like family. She is preceded in death by her brother, Derek Bamford of England. Joan was born on November 8th, 1941 in Liverpool, England during the midst of World War II. She spent most of her childhood in Holly Mount Orphanage and Convent in Tottington, England. During her life, she travelled to and lived in Scotland, New York, and California, before finally settled in with her family in Georgia. Joan was accomplished in service and volunteering. She was an active and dedicated member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Roswell, GA. She volunteered her time in a number of ways with the Church including administering the Holy Eucharist to the community as an Extraordinary Minister, working with the funeral ministry as a helper and greeter, helping in the kitchen to prepare for various church banquets, and attending several Life in the Spirit seminars. Joan was also a devoted member of her small faith group. Whenever she was called upon to serve or help, Joan never hesitated to say YES. Aside from her religious life, it was well known that she loved the game of bingo. She frequented several bingo halls with friends on a regular basis, including the VFW Post 9143 Cumming, AL Post 201 Alpharetta, and VFW Post 2681 Marietta.  She loved and welcomed fellowship and was passionate when ever speaking about her family and friends. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, August 18th, 10:00am at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Roswell, Reverend Timothy Ryan presiding.  There will be a luncheon immediately following the Mass in the reception hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joan's life. All flowers can be sent directly to the church.  Condolences can be sent in care of her daughter, Michelle Winsness, 6045 Shannon Glen Court, Cumming, GA  30040. The family would like to thank Cumming Health and Rehab for their dedication to her care, and Agape Hospice Care for their efforts and attention in assuring her peaceful passing, and in aiding the family during this time of grief.
