Welcome to the memorial page for

Virginia Hardiman

July 24, 1925 ~ September 15, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Virginia Ruth Moore Hardiman (Ginny), 92, of Roswell GA passed away in her sleep during an illness early Friday morning, September 15, 2107. She was born July 24, 1925 in Buntyn Station TN (now part of Memphis) to the late Albert Moore & Ruth Simmons Moore.

During her life’s journey, she has spent time through the years in Washington DC, Norfolk VA, Annapolis MD, Bermuda, Fremont NC, Wilson NC, Bristol VA, and lastly Roswell GA.

She was a long-time educator as a teacher in elementary, middle and high schools followed by being Dean of Women at King College and a professor at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol TN/VA.  Her under-graduate degree was earned at Memphis State College (University of Memphis) and Masters Degree in History at East Carolina University.

Prior to meeting her husband, she was a ‘stewardess’ (flight attendant) for Capital Airlines’ DC3s.  Ginny met Lawrence J Hardiman III, her husband of 68 years, along that part of her life’s journey.  They have often laughed that, back then, a husband had to give permission for a woman to remain at the airlines.  The chuckling in the household, when they tell that particular story, is that he did not go along with it.  How very much things changed as she and he did many moves along their joint life that were supportive of equality.

She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Roswell and served previously as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon there, as well as in churches where she had been a prior member.

She was an avid reader, loved listening to music and watching any of the old Westerns, as long as the good guy got the girl.

Her vivid memories of World War II were amplified by the fact that three of her older brothers served as pilots or crew in the various theaters where they were assigned.  She was even training to follow their footsteps when the war ended.

Ginny is the last in her family of eight siblings.  She leaves a family with a multitude of fond memories to recount.  Surviving her is her husband, Lawrence J Hardiman III (Larry), plus her children:   Ginger Hardiman (Paul Ramirez), Terry Scott (Eden Scott), Patty Azar (Nick Azar), Larry Hardiman IV; grandchildren: Deidre Webber (Chris Webber), Gale Scott, Alexa Ramirez (Andy Haupt), Kelly Hardiman, Maggie Scott, Larry Hardiman V; great-grandchild: Brandon Bonner; and her many nieces and nephews. She leaves all those to take a part of her, in memory, as they continue their lives.

Ginny’s wish, in lieu of flowers, was for any memorials to be as donations sent to First Baptist Church of Roswell, 710 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA 30075.

The family will have a Memorial Gathering in the parlor and library at First Baptist Church of Roswell on Thursday September 28 between 3:00pm to 5:00pm which family & friends are invited to attend.
