William Towns Obituary

William Charles Towns passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Charles Towns was born March 28, 1939, in Smyrna, Georgia and a life long resident of Cobb County.  He graduated from Campbell High School in 1957.  After graduation he spent approximately 8 yrs in the Air Force as a flight engineer.  After the Air Force he worked for the US Postal Service  until deciding to work for himself.  He received his Electrical License and opened  “Towns Electric Company” for over 35 years.  After retiring from the electrical company, he returned to work part time with NAPA Auto Parts in Marietta, Georgia, where he worked until mid January of 2024.

Charles was a patriot.  He loved his country and very prideful of his time in the Air Force.  In addition, he was an accomplished Bass Guitar player and a member of the Midnight Magic Band along with his brother Gary.  He had the privilege of playing his guitar behind numerous Nashville Country Recording Artists who would perform in Georgia and surrounding area.  In November 2001, Charles was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame as a Bass Guitar player.  Charles was a member of East Cobb Baptist Church in Marietta.  He loved the preaching and the Southern Gospel Music that moved his spirit.   Charles was an avid reader and loved a good debate on a topic of your choice.  Charles also loved his cat  Freckles very much.

He is survived by his wife Nancy O. Towns, three brothers Fred (wife Sybil) of Canton, Ga, Ronnie (wife Marilyn) of Ellijay, Ga. and Kenneth of Kennesaw, Ga., sister Shirley Fossett of Canton, Sister-In-Law Mary Towns of Marietta, Brother-In-Law Tommy Owens of Dallas, Ga. and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Mazie Towns, sister Betty Jean Towns, Brothers Murl Towns, Jackie Towns and Gary Towns.

Charles’ wish was that we celebrate his life by Graveside Service on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Milford Community Church Cemetery.
