Robert Cowan Jr. Obituary

Robert Cowan age 52, left this world on Sunday May 13, 2018 from complications of epilepsy. For Rob, uncertainty in life was ever-present and despite his handicap he was always determined to live an unconstrained life. He overcame hundreds of challenges one day at a time, and accomplished much in his 52 years.

Rob was born in Atlanta GA to Lynn Webber and Neal Cowan. He attended Lassiter High School and scored the first varsity touchdown in 1984.

After studying Exercise Science and Massage Therapy in his 20’s and 30’s he worked as a professional trainer, and a neuromuscular and range of motion therapist. He assisted professional tennis players and several prestigious clients including former Whitehouse Chief of Security Bud Collins, his wife Anita Collins, and famed Santa Fe Artist, Ford Ruthling.

In his 40’s, he and his wife Stephanie opened Dalton Cowan Gallerie in Atlanta, GA where he worked as a gallery director and master craftsman framer. For the next 10 years he continued working from home as an artisan woodworker and range of motion therapist. Most recently, he had begun writing a book on living with Epilepsy.

Throughout Rob’s unpredictable life there was one constant, his wife Stephanie, who he married on his birthday in 1993. American Folk Artist and Baptist Minister Howard Finster officiated the ceremony in his artist studio at Paradise Gardens in Summerville, Ga. He gifted the couple with a one of a kind piece of art that Rob has always cherished.

Rob touched many lives in this world with his infinite ability to love well. His beloved family includes his wife of 25 years Stephanie Dalton; his mother Lynn Webber and father Neal Cowan (Marilu Cowan); his siblings Joel Webber, Michael Cowan, Carla Cowan; his mother-in-law Barbara Dalton, his father-in-law William Dalton, (deceased) and his stepmother Lynda Eskew Conji (Pete Conji). Stephanie’s siblings: Jane Dalton, Betsy Dalton McNeill, (Jeff McNeill) Peter Dalton, Tim Dalton (Nina Lilja) and Duff Ryan (Joseph Ledda). His three grandmothers: Ruth Dingler, Sara Eskew and Louise Cowan (deceased), and his 10 nieces and nephews, along with the many four-legged children he and Stephanie adopted over the years (Otis, Nigel, Ebi, Josephine, Emily, Linus, Willie and Simon).

We carry you in our heart dear husband, loving son, eternal brother, and good friend.
