Warren Weaver Obituary

Warren (Butch) Weaver, 72, of Marietta passed away peacefully on March 9th at Kennestone Hospital. After a month-long courageous battle, he sadly succumbed to an Alveolar Hemorrhage. He was surrounded by family and friends when he took his last breath.

A decorated Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, he served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970 as a Huey Pilot.

Butch is most known for his iconic rock bar, Charley Magruder’s, which he owned from the early 80’s to its demise in 1996.  Being touted as the “Godfather of Rock” in Atlanta, his love of music was undeniable. Many musicians both local and national walked through the doors over the years with some cutting their teeth as local up and coming bands. To this day, a lot of musicians owe their music career to his encouragement. Even after his club days, he remained a supporter of local live music and would offer bands free rehearsal time in his home studio.

His main hobbies were cars and flying. He loved Corvettes and was a collector of many over the years. He was constantly working on cars whether it be his own or someone else’s. He was an avid flight simulator flier and built one in his home from scratch.

Butch was one of the most kind-hearted men you would ever meet. He would give the shirt off his back.  Everyone was his friend. There are not too many people in this world that have maintained friendships for over 30+ years. This was a testament to his personality. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. His larger than life laugh will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Tricia, step-son Jack Morris, step-daughter, Kensley Morris, of Marietta, and mother Sara Chapman, sister Rita Bruner and nephew James Ruckel, brothers Terry Chapman of Texas and John (Betsy) Chapman, nieces Stephanie White, Carly Chapman, Mary Chapman, Sara Chapman, Briana White all from Ft. Walton Beach, FL

A Celebration of Life will be held at Center Stage in Atlanta on April 1st at 5:00 pm. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Vietnam Veterans of America, local chapter.
