Alvis Thompson Obituary


Al Thompson of Woodstock, GA passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2021, shortly after his 80th birthday and following a 3-week battle against Covid-19. Al was born in Lawrenceburg, TN and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. In 1978 he married Marilyn. In 1985 while working for Life Investors Inc. Al was transferred to Atlanta and they moved to Marietta, GA and then to Woodstock GA. Al earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Walsh College and worked as a technical recruiter for over 15 years.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his brother Glynn Thompson, and a son Curt Thompson. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #10362 and was a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul
Society. He was involved in the Career Care and the Military Support ministries at Transfiguration. His main hobbies were woodworking and golf both of which he had to give up when he was diagnosed with emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis 5 years ago.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1815 Blackwell Rd. Marietta GA 30066 on Friday, November 12 at 1:00 pm. He will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in
Canton GA on December 14, 2021. Due to Covid-19, the family regrets that there be no reception following the service.
