Arlene Houfek Clark of Kennesaw, GA passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the age of 75.
Arlene was born in Denver, CO and grew up in the Brookhaven area of Atlanta. She was a graduate of D'Youville Academy. She lived many years in Maitland, FL where she had a successful 38-year banking career and raised her two children and a stepson. Arlene later resided in Concord, NC in her 1870's historic dream home, where the halls were always filled with laughter and fellowship. In Concord, she made many lifelong friends and devoted herself to multiple clubs and charities.
In 2018, Arlene relocated to Kennesaw to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and her sister. She found her place volunteering at the Smith-Gilbert Gardens, serving as a Cobb County elections poll worker, assisting guests at the William Root House, and a teammate of the GA Department of Defense finance division. She also found much joy most recently in serving her church family at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, having previously served with the United Methodist Women in Concord, NC.
Throughout her life, Arlene loved all things outdoors, her small dogs, decorating for every holiday, hosting wonderful luncheons, playing bridge, watching disaster movies, dancing, listening to music, and being present and empathetic for those in need. She was a true and loyal friend to so many. Most of all, her greatest role was as grandmother to two grandsons who lovingly called her "Nana Banana with the Purple Toes!" Her grandsons brought her much joy and she often was found running through sprinklers or swinging right alongside them.
All those who knew Arlene were touched by her sweet smile and lighthearted nature.
Arlene is survived by: her daughter, Kelly Dudley and her husband David; son, Jason Clark and his sons, Victor and Tate Lyons; stepson, Lance Barkley; sister, Maraul Boulware; brother, Steve Houfek; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and so many wonderful lifelong and new friends!
She is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Margaret Houfek and her sister Barbara Payne. May they all rest in the Lord's arms.
Arlene's celebration will begin at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, October 22nd at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church followed by a reception at the William Root House in Marietta, GA.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to all of those who recognized that Arlene was one-of-a-kind and to those who have and will be by the family's side as we celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to Maple Avenue United Methodist Church or the Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society’s William Root House.
