Dr Louis Cossitte LaMotte Jr, age 94, passed away on July 15th, 2022 in Dunwoody, Georgia. He was born on January 21st, 1928 to the late Sarah Hunter and Dr. Louis C. LaMotte Sr. He grew up in Maxton, North Carolina and a left to attend Duke university, where he majored in pre-medical science. He graduated in 1948 and continued his studies in microbiology at the University of North carolina, completing his master's degree before moving on to John's Hopkins University, where he earned his doctor of science degree in public health.
While attending Duke University and joining his sigma chi fraternity membership, he met Lila Jean Magruder, another Duke student, and they married at Tacoma Park Presbyterian Church on December 31st, 1948 after both had completed their undergraduate studies.
During his long career as a virologist and immunologist, he served with biological warfare program of the department of the army. DOD at Fort Derek, MD, the virus investigations unit at CDC site in Greeley, CO, and finally was transferred to CDC in Atlanta in 1966. There he held several positions and retired in 1986.
