On Saturday, August 17, Betty Driemeyer, loving mother of 7 children, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren passed away at age 89. Betty, née Frances Elizabeth Stroud, was born on January 30, 1930 in St. Louis, Mo. to Carliss and Betty Stroud. She received a degree in urban planning from the University of Toledo in 1983. Betty was married to Fred Arthur (Art) Driemeyer, II and together they raised their children, Betts (Markle), Fred, Janet (Walin), Rick, Kay (Williamson), Chip, and Doug. Betty has been living most recently at Johnson Ferry Senior Living in Marietta, GA.
Betty and Art had an adventurous life living in Tucson, AZ, Merrit Island, FL, Homer City, PA, Homestead, FL, Ann Arbor, MI, the Bay Area, CA, Indonesia, Lambertville, MI, finally retiring to Sullivan’s Is., SC where they operated a frame and print gallery in Mt. Pleasant, SC for nearly 30 years. Betty was active in the local business community and enjoyed participating in the artist culture in Charleston and the Low County. As an artist herself, Betty worked in clay at her studio at home on Sullivan’s Is. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed participating in a library book club and volunteering at the Sullivan’s Island Library. She was also an active member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Sullivan’s Island, SC, and the Isle Of Palms Garden Club.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Art, her daughters Janet and Kay as well as her three brothers. She is survived by 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Rev. Barbara Stroud-Borth from Mt. Pulaski, IL.
