James Edward Stephens Sr.

James Edward Stephens Sr., 85, went home peacefully to the Lord on March 4, 2018. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he always taught that the most important thing (outside of a relationship with Jesus) was family. A resident of Georgia for most of his life, James spent his last years filled with love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

James was born in Toronto, Ohio, and eventually moved to Morgantown, W.Va., with his family. At 17, he joined the Army and found himself on the shores of Pusan soon after the Korean War started in 1950. Having survived the war, James returned home and met Lois Pyles from neighboring Masontown, W.Va., whom he married soon after. Five kids and more than a dozen moves later, the couple ended up in Marietta, Ga., where the family would come to spend countless days in the company of one another.

James is preceded in death by wife, Lois, one child, both parents, two brothers and one sister. James leaves four sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Linda Stephens, James Jr. and Sandra Stephens, David and Melody Stephens, and Larry and Gail Stephens. Although James officially had 12 grandchildren, he counted their spouses as well, bringing the total number of his grandchildren to 21. In addition to his 21 grandchildren, they brought him 23 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be at Medford-Peden Funeral Home from 5-8pm Wednesday March 7th, 2018. The funeral will be held on March 8th at 1pm at Kennesaw United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in memory to Kennesaw Methodist Church, 1801 Ben King Rd, Kennesaw GA 30144 or to the church of your choice. However, flowers are welcome.
