Lindy Louise Carner

Lindy Louise Carner, age 70, better known by family and friends as “Dodie” passed away and entered the Kingdom of Heaven peacefully on Sunday September 23, 2018 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.

She was born in Tampa, Fla. on April 20, 1948. She was a graduate of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Ga before entering dog grooming school and later opening the “Dodie’s Dolled Up Doggies” business in Iva, SC. After spending 20 plus successful years in the dog grooming business, she sold it and began a new career in retail at the entry level for Office Max in S.C. and later, after moving back to Georgia, at a Home Goods store in Alpharetta, Ga. She again excelled in retail and through hard work and determination elevated herself into managerial positions before finally retiring from Home Goods. She was an avid animal lover, especially dogs, and for a while had a part time pet photography business. She also raised award winning basset hound show dogs. Her dogs were her children and she loved and cared for them, as any mother would.  

Dodie is survived by her brother Bruce Swann with wife Carolyn of Marietta Ga, nephew Tyson Swann with wife Bethany of Canton Ga, and niece Susan Swann of Clarkesville, Ga, along with numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles. She was preceded in death by her mother Marilyn E Reeves, as well as, step-father Merrell M. Reeves of Marietta, Ga and father Mack Swann of Jacksonville, Fla.

Funeral arrangements for Dodie are as follows: Visitation will be on Wednesday Sept 26, 2018 from 6pm to 9pm at Medford-Peden Funeral Home at 1408 Canton Road, Marietta, Ga 30066. Funeral services will be held in the Medford-Peden Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday Sept 27, 2018 at 2pm followed by interment at the Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery 1306 Whitlock Ave, Marietta, GA 30064.

Dodie’s family would also like to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to caregiver Simone Dely and her staff of the Dedicated Personal Care Home facility in Marietta, Ga for the exceptional care and love provided to Dodie since Feb. 1, 2018, while she was experiencing several health related issues. Additionally, the family is grateful to the doctors and nurses of the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital CCU department  for their relentless efforts for 17 days to heal Dodie of her serious life threatening health problems. As it became apparent that Dodie’s life on earth was coming to an end, the sympathy and compassion shown by the staff was truly comforting and remarkable to witness.
