Norman Lee Butterworth, lifelong resident of Cobb County, passed away on July 29, 2023 after a long illness. He graduated from Sprayberry in 1966 and joined the Army during the Vietnam conflict. He earned the Purple Heart for his injury. After returning to the U.S. in 1968, he went to work for General Motors at the Lakewood plant. He retired after 30 years of service.
In 2005, he became a cattleman and “farmer” to help his mother-in-law, Geneva Rogers, after his father-in-law, James Rogers, passed. He loved the farm and those were some of the happiest years of his life.
Norman loved old cars, restoring and working on vehicles. Much to his displeasure, as he got sick, he no longer had the energy to do that anymore.
He was a friend to all. He never met a stranger. He could talk the ears off a mule! Norman was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margie and Alfred Butterworth; his son, Jon Butterworth; and sister, Myrna Law.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Rogers Butterworth; his daughter, Tammy Hayworth (Ray); his sister, Lori Barrett (Ken); his grandchildren, Tiffany Martin (Blake), Randa Conley (Chris), Travis Hayworth (Keaton), and Truitt Hayworth; great grandchildren, Braylynn Martin, Wyatt Martin, Wylder Martin, Delanie Conley and was expecting another later this year, Colter Hayworth; several nieces, nephews, cousins, families and friends.
Norman was greatly loved by all who knew him and will be missed tremendously.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in his honor to Vet To Vet, an organization that was near and dear to his heart: Vet To Vet, 102 Allison Circle, Cartersville, GA 30120.
