Paul Birnkammer Obituary

Loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Paul Grahamer Birnkammer, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in Marietta, Georgia. He was 64 years old.

Paul was born in Savannah, Georgia on January 9, 1958, to Lt. Col (Ret) Jack Anton Birnkammer and Louise (Souza) Birnkammer. Home was where the Air Force sent the family, including Savannah, Georgia; Wichita Falls, Texas; Ramstein, Germany; Hartford, Connecticut; Arlington, Virginia; Oslo, Norway, and Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

Paul was a 1976 graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he participated on the track team.

After graduation, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for four years as a Navy Machinist’s Mate aboard the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier. After completing his military service as an E-6, he remained in California where he attended college. His interest in gardening and landscaping led to his own lawn service business. After some time, he relocated to Georgia to be closer to his family. There he worked as a photographer and later gained employment in the financial services and health insurance fields. Most recently, he worked as a caregiver in Smyrna, Georgia.

Paul was an avid reader. He also had a passion for music, especially classic rock and roll and the blues. He enjoyed both photography and gardening.

Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his siblings: Maria I. Birnkammer and her partner Mike Smawley; Max A. Birnkammer and his wife Jun Birnkammer; Sarah L. Halberg and her husband David J. Halberg; Jack Andrew Birnkammer and his partner Cindy; and Georg S. Birnkammer and his wife Anne Birnkammer. He is also survived by his niece Madeline Graham, and nephews Andrew Graham, Nathaniel Graham, Robert Graham, Christopher Graham, Adam Halberg, Daniel Halberg, Zachary Halberg and Jacob Halberg; his aunt Caroline Albano and her husband Joe Albano, and many cousins including Eve Birnkammer (Retired Lt. Col US Army).

Internment of Paul’s ashes will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery with full military honors on a future date.
