March 13, 1939 ~ August 28, 2016 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Imre Lajos “Lucky” Lakatos, 77, of Woodstock passed away August 28, 2016.  Acelebration of life service will be held 7PM Friday, September
16 at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta.A reception will follow in the  church Family Life Center. Burial will take place 10AM Monday, September 19 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Lakatos and is survived by his daughter, Sarah Lakatos Casto. Imre was born March 13, 1939 in Budapest, Hungary. At just 17 yrs old,  Imre fled from Hungary to the United States seeking freedom.  He joined The United States Navy and became known as "Lucky". He proudly served his country for 21 years and retired as a Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic.
He relocated to Marietta to begin a second career at Lockheed Martin, where he worked for over 20 years. Lucky was a true patriot who took pride in his military service, understood the value of freedom and sincerely loved his country. Lucky committed to retirement as he did all aspects of his life- wholeheartedly!  While golf was his top priority, he was an avid sports fan who stayed loyal to Notre Dame. He enjoyed the challenge of the "hunt" for the best deals and catching up on local gossip with friends in the evenings at Jimmy Mac's from his VIP seat. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak no one could get enough.  He was usually the wisest one in the room and never stopped being a student as well as the teacher. Determination and endless drive assisted Imre Lajos Lakatos inaccomplishing  The American Dream. His life was truly inspiring and simply fascinating. Lucky will be dearly missed.
